Mac Users: I need some help!

Ok, my brother just dropped off a Dual G4 that needs to have OSX 10.4 reloaded. (I am at work right now and not sitting in front of it) He is not very computer inclined, but he told me that he tried it and "It didn't work"

Is there anything specific I need to do to reinstall 10.4? Is 10.4 (Panther I think?) Linux based? If so I don't think it will be that bad.

He also wants to sell it after it is fixed, How do I find out what all hardware it has in it?

uhh i dont think 10.4 is out yet, its 10.3 thats current, called panther yes. you need to find the panther cd and put it in and run the install app and you should be able to do it from there. after that go to apple, about this mac, more info.

ok, I just turned it on, and it is "locking" on the color pallate.. How do I close that app down (my color wheel just keeps spinning) Is there like a ctrl-alt-del to close that program? It doesn't allow me to close it.

Also, when booting, do I have to press anything special to get it to boot from the 10.3 disc? I had it in there and it booted to hdd.

open up shell and kill the process,

to boot off a cd , just plop it in and hold down C when you start it up

Ok.. Still need some help.. I can't get the force quit box open before it locks up..

All I want to do is re-install OSX 10.3.

I put the disc in, turn it off.. Then turn it on and hold down the "c" key. It keeps booting from the HDD. Anyone have any tips?

EDIT Found a Mac forum asking same question.. Hold down option and it asks you where you want to boot from.. Thanks for the help.. I am wicked Mac stupid.
