Mac-synchable mobile phone needed

I'm searching a new mobile phone. The technical requirements are low, wouldn't it be for the condition that it has to be synchable in OS X. This still limits the choices, regrettably. In the past I liked my Nokia phones most, but am not up to date anymore about the phone industry. After some research it looks like the market is dominated by autistic MP3 phones and pricey organisers with little in between.

Here are my requirements in more detail:

Must haves:
  • * Basic synchronisation functionality in OS X via Bluetooth(=contacts; see below)
    * Responsive user interface (no lag when browsing the menus and typing)
    * Swiss GSM ;)

Nice to haves:
  • * Triband
    * Candybar or slider form factor
    * slightly advanced sync functionality in OS X (think birthday calendar)
    * UMTS

OS X supports by default the following Nokia phones:

Nokia N70
Nokia N80
Nokia N90
Nokia E61
Nokia E62
Nokia N71
Nokia N72
Nokia N73
Nokia N91
Nokia N93
Nokia 3230
Nokia 3650
Nokia 3660
Nokia 3600
Nokia 3620
Nokia 6021
Nokia 6102
Nokia 6103
Nokia 6111
Nokia 6126
Nokia 6131
Nokia 6133
Nokia 6230
Nokia 6230i
Nokia 6260
Nokia 6270
Nokia 6280
Nokia 6600
Nokia 6620
Nokia 6630
Nokia 6670
Nokia 6680
Nokia 6681
Nokia 6682
Nokia 6820
Nokia 6822
Nokia 7370
Nokia 7380
Nokia 7610
Nokia 7650
Nokia 8800
Nokia 8801
Nokia 9300i
Nokia N-Gage
Nokia N-Gage QD

Some of these probably aren't new anymore but still on sale if one knows where to go, this shouldn't be a problem where I live. There are additional plug-ins from Nokia for a couple of their newest phones available, and some third party softwares of varying quality for a couple of older phones.

I'm looking at the medium priced segment but am ready to buy cheaper or dearer if the offer is right. So far the Nokia 6500 Classic is the best match, but it is not officially OS X supported. If it is a brand-new phone (meaning support possibly improves) or if it is an outstandingly good phone, I still might buy it.

I've reached a point where I'm searching for opinions and experiences, and haven't even begun to study the offers of the competition. :( Who here is synching his mobile phone in OS X? Does anybody have experiences with the two new 6500 models or similar phones?

Many thanks in advance.

You can always buy a Smartphone or PDA phone and sync with OSX. You do however need to buy a plugin though.
I do my syncs (Samsung Blackjack, and now Blackberry Pearl) with my desktop Vista system.

I sync my Verizon RAZR V3m with OS X... it sort varies upon its mood as to whether I can sync my calendar or not. When I first got my MacBook, I couldn't sync calendars, then all through school last year I could, now, I can't again. I can still sync contacts though, and that is my main concern.

I have heard that you can edit iSync to add in functionality for certain phones, but I am not sure how adventurous you feel.

Thank you for your answers. It's just... I'm not going for a full-fledged business phone if I can avoid it.

The RAZR V3m is a flip phone and I try to avoid these, too. I also do not feel adventurous this time

In the meantime, the Nokia N73 was recommended to me. So far it looks like it meets my requirements. I'll have a closer look at the N series and, once I've bought a phone, will report back. Cheers.

What about the E62? It's not terribly expensive...more of an "in-between" smartphone and regular phone. Runs Symbian.

The E62 is too far away from the old candybar design for me.

I bought the Nokia N73 Music Edition. This is the "hip" reincarnation of this 2006 phone. The main differences are that the 2 GB memory card and headphones are now part of the package. Plus if I really want, I can download five songs per month for the equivalent of a cool $8.64. :p

The price was a nice surprise. I think it's targeted at younger customers now. I paid about $95 with a 24 months contract prolongation. So far I like the phone. :)
