explain yourself. until i start to hear good quality, formidable arguments for non-Apple computers that arent simply "apple sucks, non-Apples are better", I will continue to search for a powerbook. What do non-Apple computers offer that Apples dont offer?

What do non-Apple computers offer that Apples dont offer?
1. Cheaper initial cost.
2. Wider variety of peripheral vendors. This means I can get stuff for the computer easier from a greater number of places for less money.
3. No hassle being able to play games. This would also overlap with #2 and include things like driver support for high performance video hardware, etc.

Macs are fine if all you want to do is email, surf the web, use office apps, occasional professional applications like graphics and you have no concern about cost - either initial purchase or ongoing - AND you are willing to put up with the hassles of having to dig in order to find what you need. In the past Macs were the only real choice for graphics development, now this is no longer true.

i'll agree with you on points #1 and 2. However, games are very widely available. I will not be complaining if I am playing wolfenstein on my powerbook, or playing any number of other games available. I will also disagree on "the occasional use of professional applications". You say it like the mac can BARELY handle it. far from true. It is a well-known fact that graphics programs are rock-solid on macs, and macs are easily the choice for graphics work.

so what? they're more expensive? so with that added 200 or 300 dollars, I am getting a higher quality laptop (we're talking overall build quality here) as well as a rock-solid (and arguably more stable than it's windows counterpart) OS. Plus, it looks cool. Sounds like a deal to me. It's a laptop which I am looking in to, so i have no need to buy any peripherals such as new video cards, etc. If i want to upgrade ram, I can do so affordably.

Ha, the Mac haters are out.

<- hugs his own powerbook powering 2000fp and logitech wifi mouse/keyboard, connecting to 120gb FW drive and a tablet :)
...all in sexy 1" titanium package

Most of the people that hate macs never really used any/ or have no background in unix. I'm redhat ceritfied and i love OSX just because its unix. People who considers themselves windows "powerusers" and couldn't figure out simple netbios/samba problem make up the mac hater population

Cost is really my bottom line. That's the reason I'm running AMD not Intel right now and I hope there is never a day when I HAVE to choose Intel again either. I hope I never see another day when I pay $800 for a processor.
