MAC purchase question? New to MAC!

I purchased one, but then cancelled it. I bought the apple care and thought, well, maybe i dont need the applecare for 149.99 extra.

this is my first mac, so what do you guys think? does 200mhz make a big difference for an extra 100 bux?

do you really need apple care?

Plan on ordering today.

If you are worried about money, I'd say get a PC, I had an iMac DV 450 a few years ago and there wasn't much software for it then, and from what I hear still isn't.

You could proply get a PC 2x as good for the same price.

It really depends on what you plan to do. If you don't have a decent PC that you can game on than don't buy the mini. For destkop usage, go for it. OS X is far superior to Windows. IMO, ghz doesn't help performance as much as ram will. Spend the extra money on a cheap 1 gig stick at newegg.

Is it worth the 100 upgrade for higher Mac Mini?

I think its worth it.. If my memory is correct you get 2x hard drive size and another 200mhz for 100 bucks.

Also, definately upgrade the memory, but dont buy that from apple.

Clarify. I have yet to find ANY redeeming values with OSX relative to XPpro. In fact, i work at home as much as i can just to avoid that G5 (its slower, more irritating, and more difficult to work with. If i had a nickel for every time i had to say, "stupid *effing* mac" every day, well...you do the math). I use command line more than aqua, and thank Darwin that i know how to.

Give me your G5 then

Sorry, its not mine to give away (my PI is a bit of a macophile). However, i can say EVERY third party app runs noticably slower on the G5 than my 3500+ winnie with 1GB of ram. Rather pathetic given that the G5 is ~3x more expensive.

I don't think its worth the $100. The hard drive is bigger, and slower. You can go with an external FW HD. The speed difference between CPUs isn't going to matter. Spend the money on a 1GB PC3200 DIMM.

Thanks for the honest and succinct opinion.

Sorry for the misleading headline.

I have many PCS and love them, build them etc. However, I run a business and want to broaden my services to MACS, not everyone uses PCs.

thanks again
