Hello all, I have my first Mac and i have no idea how to get it to boot from an external DVD drive so that i can install OSX. Does anyone know how to do this?

Thank you!

Can you get it into OS, and if so, does the OS recognize the external? If it does, then drop the OS X disc in the drive and restart the computer. While it is booting hold option+C. This is will boot the disc drive.

If you have another Mac and a FireWire cable at hand, you can boot the PowerBook in Target Disk Mode to install OS X. Pretty much every other solution was already pointed out in your first thread, sorry.
