Mac Powerbook G4

I have a ? for any Mac powerbook users. Just saw a G4 powerbook at my favorite local pawn shop inwhich they had a good price on it, $319. After doing some checking its a 15" screen but i don't know how much memory it has or if it has combo or superdrive. It has either a 60 or 80gb hdd. but the only problem is that they don't know or have the login password for the admin or user person. I would offer a lower price on it but would it be a problem to go into the system to remove the windows login password? and can anyone give me suggestions on where to go or what to do? Thanks

Your best bet would be a complete restore of the system. Get hold off a Tiger disk and drop it in the machine. Restart it while holding option+c. (it may be apple+c) that will make it boot off the optical, you can then use disk utility from the optical disk to wipe the hard drive and re-install tiger.

hell thats a great price! you could craigslist it and prob get double the price you paid easily. if you want to keep it, do asstu says and buy a copy of OSX 10.4 and do a fresh install.

If you have an OS install CD you can reset the password. Boot from the CD by holding the "C" key when restarting. I forget which menu option it is, but one of the menus will have a reset password option.

There can be some problems if you boot with a CD that is a different version than the installed OS but most of the time it seems to work fine.

QFT. It's a no-brainer if the system CD/DVD isn't missing. Otherwise, it is a PITA or impossible and you could be forced to find a boxed version of OS X.

did you not read the blog I posted above? It's a piece of cake. Boot into single user mode, type two lines and that should be it.

I went ahead and put it on layaway. but after doing some upclose inspection, i notice some places where there were some dents especially above the superdrive where it looks bent. How that the drive is still in working condition. I understand that the aluminum body is easily bend or dented. For $344 i hope it worth it. If not then they'll be having it back.

Actually I finished reading right after "single user mode", maybe I should reconsider my standards...

So, is the PowerBook operational, OP?
