Mac-PC ICS

Aiight, we're hookin up DSL in my apartment, our provider has a deal with the complex that you can add another line/modem for an additional $9.99/month, not a bad deal. So we're gonna hook up two modems, one in each room. My room will be no problem, it is two PC's, in the other room, it is one eMac, and one laptop. Is there a way to split up that modem, sans getting a router? Obviously the router is the easiest solution, but if we can just run the modem through USB(I'm assuming the modem has USB, we haven't gotten them yet), and then hook up a crossover cable, that would be alot cheaper...the only problem is, I don't know how well Mac's & PC's work together with internet connection sharing. Anyone have any experience with this?

ICS should work fine with anything that speaks IP, it's just a shoddy Windows NAT and unconfigurable DHCP server. If not, pick an IP in the 192.168.1.0/24 range and set the gateway to 192.168.1.1, which should be the ICS gateway.
