Sorry bout the previous post. Anyway, this is a Mac problem, OS9 in particular. A friend of mine has an iBook and one day it wouldnt boot, it would only show a file folder witha question mark on it and stop there. I tried the no extension boot and it again did the same thing. Anyone know the deal with that or a forum for Mac users? I checked the FAQ for that and didnt see anything. Thanks,

Ryan

read the faq or use google. this question has been asked MANY times.
edit:I could have sworn this thread was asking about the differences between XP home and XP pro. Either you made a HUGE edit, or I replied to the wrong thread. Seeing as there are no threads asking about XP Home VS Pro on the front page right now, I'm guessing the former.

Do you still need an answer?

If so, boot with an OS9 cd (hold c when you turn it on) and use it to set the startup disk. If it doesn't find your system folder, then you need to reinstall.

hrm, well we did boot to the CD. we tried to repair the OS, which wouldnt work, i cant remember exactly what it said (i think it was some bus error or something... tried to figure out what that was on apples site to no avail) but we couldnt do it. we ended up wiping the drive and i split it into two partitions since she lost a bunch of stuff unnecessarily. I was just curious what that damn folder with the question mark meant. i assumed that it couldnt find the OS or something. anyway, thanks!!

The folder with a question mark means the computer cannot find the (a) system folder.
