Mac OS X Leopard Up-to-Date Program

it says you can upgrade to leopard if you bought your pc after 10-6-07.

well other than saying you can upgrade it doesnt tell you they are sending you a upgrade dvd.

that would be nice to know.

I was hoping for a single disc to pop in and install on my new 160gb hd

well... how is that screwing the enduser exactly? they told you you can ... well.. upgrade.

besides, aren't all dvds capable of full installs? It's just some of the OEM ones are tied somehow.

I think what they mean is that it's an upgrade DVD; that it'll upgrade Tiger to Leopard since you already have it installed. I don't even think Apple makes discs that are upgrade only (meaning you have to have an OS installed before using it). My guess is that these upgrade DVDs are full Leopard discs.

I believe they are "upgrade" discs.

I don't have one of the leopard dvd's, but I have the tiger and panther ones and they were capable of full installs. have you tried it?

When I bought my PowerBook G4 several years ago it came with 10.2 installed. I received a 10.3 disc through the up-to-date program. That disc required 10.2 be installed before it would install 10.3. It would allow you to do a clean install (erase then install) but 10.2 had to be present first. Of course, they could have since changed that.

After you get Tiger installed, boot from the Leopard upgrade disc and at some point early on in the installation process, there should be some options, erase and install should be available. Once the disc sees Tiger installed, it will let you erase the drive and clear it off, then perform a clean install. At least that is the way it has worked in the past. So it is a little messed up, you have to install Tiger just so the upgrade disc can see it, then it erases it again.

yeah, that's what I meant by a clean install from an upgrade dvd. you were promised an upgrade dvd, and that's what you got.
