Any idea how long the stores start stacking macs with new oses?

I know that, at least when ordering online, if you order shortly before it comes oyu get a coupon for a free upgrade. I did this with Jaguar to Panther.

Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard and its 300-plus new features and innovations are coming Oct. 26, 2007.

If you buy a qualifying Mac between October 1, 2007 and December 29, 2007, and it does not include Mac OS X Leopard, you?re eligible to get Leopard after it?s released for just $9.95 plus tax

If you buy a qualifying Mac between October 1, 2007 and December 29, 2007, and it does not include Mac OS X Leopard, you?re eligible to get Leopard after it?s released for just $9.95 plus tax

Why pay the $10 when I can just wait a couple days?

I used to be. I got a rev. A Macbook that was less than stellar when it came to relability and the Apple Store and Apple Technical Support were useless.

Hah, I was in the same boat! I was super excited about the 13" and bought the rev. A model as well and had every problem in the book. I got really frustrated with Apple and sold it and swore off first-generation Mac stuff (or first-gen anything for that matter). I currently have a Santa Rosa 15" MacBook Pro and it's perfect...no heat issues, no random shutdowns, etc. etc.

Really? You think they'll have macbooks with leapard available on the 26th? If so, I'll so be at the apple store that day!

maybe they will, but im sure they will at least give you a copy to install yourself...it comes with EVERY mac so i dont see why not. 🙂

One thing to consider... if you wait until after the 26th to get it as the default OS on a new Mac, you won't be able to roll it back to 10.4.x if you choose.
Apple will lock you into 10.5 minimum. Not that it's necessarily bad, but it does take away your choice.

Buy a Mac with 10.4.x, get 10.5 for $10, and you can decide when it's best to put the new OS on it.
Read the reports on what might be "broken" or not working 100% on sites like macfixit.com and macintouch.com.

Plus, when and if you decide to sell it, a machine that can have 10.4 or 10.5 installed seems like a better deal.

Refurbs are also eligible! the 24" iMac (white) for $1450 is looking better & better.

"Customers who purchase a qualifying new Macintosh computer or an Apple Certified Refurbished computer from the Apple Online Store on or after October 1, 2007 that does not have Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard included can upgrade to Leopard."
