I currently am running panther. If I install Tiger, will all my info on my hard drive be deleted including my music, word documents, pictures etc?
 
You can either make a clean install or you can update your system and keep your data. I've seamlessly updated two systems without data loss.

But you should consider a backup solution anyway. There's always a risk of disk failure or power outage during the update, Mac or not!

Always have backups.
That being said, you can do a simple upgrade which will keep all of your files in tact.
What you don't want to do is "erase and install". Though, that's the way I always do it because I like to start fresh.
