Hello,

I have been trying to figure this out for quite a while now. What I am trying to do are the following things:

  1. Connecting to a Windows 2000 Advanced Server Domain with Macs on the network.
  1. Connecting to a MS Exchange Server with MS Outlook for MAC to check e-mails
  1. Mount Home Directory so users can backup files

I have tried Dave and it works fine. but there are around 20 macs that need to connect to the network and it's kinda expensive to buy a license for each mac so I am trying to think of an easier way.

Thanks
Phil

Well, win2k can serve DHCP and even WINS to a MAC computer. This will allows your mac to connect to the internet. I am pretty sure that outlook for mac will allow you to setup connection to an exchange server; just follow the direction in outlook for mac.

For mac computer to store file in windows 2000 server, you will have to create mac accessable volume which is done on add/remove windows component in control panel. Go to other file and print services and click on File and Print for Macintosh. This will allow you to create mac accessable shared folder which all your mac computer can access.

Hope that Helps

BTW...

While using the built in resources in Mac & Windows is certainly a perfectly fine way to have a Mac be part of a windows network, a great many people find that the convenience, flexability and ease of use found in a product like Dave or PCMaclan to be worth the price. Just do a web search on the products and see if it sounds attractive to you.

Windows 2000 Server supports AppleTalk networking and Apple file sharing, did you try that?

Mac also support TCP/IP for file sharing with windows network (with MAC accessable share folder).
I would prefer using this method rather than maintaining 2 different active protocol. IMHO.
