Mac OS 9.1 and Networking/Printing Problems

I know very little about Macs but have run into a problem in our publishing lab. We have about 15 Macs connected to an Ethernet network and printing to an HP 4050n also on the network. My problem is that 2 of the Macs can't see the other Macs or the printer. I have tried different cables and different switch port with no luck. I have gone into TCPIP settings and see that the PCs are getting addresses from our DHCP server as well. Now I have no idea what else to try. Is there an AppleTalk group or some similar variable that has to be set?

Can some one point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

No, but I hear that there is this great computer networking program at a school in Michigan. I bet if you were to go there for 4 years and get your BS degree then you would know all about Macs..🙂

Hey, man what's up? I see you are busy still, lol...damn I am bored.

Actually I hear that they don't teach you anything accept assembly language at that school.

Yes as always things are busy when you don't know any thing about half of what you are in charge of.

You know...if you are bored, I can think of a couple of things you can do. What do you know about Macs other than they are alot better when they are Big Macs?

zap the pram(hold down command option p and r while the computer is off, continue holding down and start up the machine, let it restart itself 5 or so times). try using a crossover cable to connect directly to the printer? try pinging the macs, there's an app for os9 that will do it or you can just ping from a windows machine. make sure appletalk is active 🙂. try connecting by ip address instead of appletalk.

other than the simple things you might try trashing the preference files for appletalk, or worst case, backup all your apps and documents and reinstall.

let us know if anything works.

In the same AppleTalk control panel, is it set for the correct Zone? This is the same kind of thing as setting a Workgroup or Domain in Windows.

Are you getting any network connection? Can you connect to the web?
