ok, ok, it's not even mine! At work, I only have access to a PowerMac G3 running OS 8.5. We have a T1 connection on a large network. My machine gets about 1.2 Kb/s (on a good day) while the PCs in the same room off the same hub get about 8 Kb/s. What gives?

Where can I tweak the configuration of my connection in the OS? I'm not familiar with it at all, and don't get to spend too much time on it anyway, but it is super frustrating. Is there a optimizer app I can get, like they have for Windows? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I've found that pc's are always faster at networking. I dont know of any apps but i'd try download.com. Installing Dave actually boosted my network performance a bit. And its alot faster than using pcmaclan on the pc's for p2p.

But you can either deal, wait for osx which might be faster, or just kick someone off of the pc's.

Both of those rates seem low, maybe there's some inferior network equipment, especially close to you. Or, the differences could be from you being on a 10baseT network, them on a 100baseTX link, with both suffering from high congestion.. ideally 100baseTX is 10x faster, real-world neither go their max, and you are at an interesting fraction..

Just an idea, anyway. :)
