selling old ibook g3 900mhz to my little sister who's going off to college this fall. Now, should I consider upgrading to a current 12" powerbook G4 or wait for the new powerbookG5s to come out? I'm in no hurry, having two mainrigs running suse/winxp and the other running winxp. just wondering if the new G5s will be approx. the same retail as the current ones when they come out (12" being around 1400....maybe?)

If you're in no hurry, then why not wait? The only thing I would maybe jump on is if you got an incredible deal on a current-gen PowerBook.

On the other hand, it's not always fun being a guinea pig for new toys.

According to the MacRumors Buyer's Guidee, the iBooks face the end of a product cycle, while the Powerbooks are halfway through their cycle. However a G5 Powerbook would be rather a revolutionary then an evolutionary step because of the heat issues. So it's not very clear when the next generation of Powerbooks is going to be available.

I guess that the next generation of Apple laptops will have nearly the same pricing as the actual product lines. Apple didn't make big changes on existing production lines price-wise for some time, however I'm just extrapolating recent developments, like MacRumors.
