Mac Mousing

I've about had it with my Mac's mousing abilities. I'm a fairly new Mac user and I'm annoyed at my mighty mouse movements and acceleration.

Are there any tips or Apps that can help make my mouse act more like a Windows mouse?

Grab a copy of SteerMouse and try the following settings:

Tracking Speed = 1.0
Sensitivity = 150

I, too, am using a (Bluetooth) Mighty Mouse and wanted it more like Windows.

Seconded on Steermouse, it's amazing! If you're using a Logitech mouse, use Logitech Control Center (free) instead.

Yea, I do think it's funny as well. Neither OS is dependent upon the other, so if you prefer Windows, or OS X, I don't know why people want to force themselves to switch. Kinda weird to me.

I have friends who complain about mouse tracking all the time. I can't tell the difference. I guess I'm just odd.

I can definitely tell the difference with the trackpad, but hardly at all with the mouse. So I am with you on this one.

Thanks, guys. I finally got around to downloading and trying out Steermouse. It works quite well.

magnux, your settings are good. Before I tried your settings I configured my mouse to 1.075 and 200. I'm still playing with it, though.

I do have a old Logitech MX510 and MX518 laying around. I tried using it before as I see I still have the Logitech Control Center installed.

That's a rather general assumption, isn't it? Some of us prefer a quicker mouse response. It's not that we "want it like Windows", it's just that the mouse tracking on Mac OS is completely different than that of just about every other OS available.. I never had to find software for mouse acceleration/tracking for OS/2, X11, or any other OS -- except Mac OS.

So just because there's a single aspect of Windows that we prefer to OS X, we should just go ahead and forgo OS X entirely? Seriously?

No, that's not what I was trying to insinuate. It was a very broad statement, and actually doesn't really apply to most situations. I just find it funny, that's all.

EDIT: Just downloaded and tried SteerMouse. Still unsure about it, but I think the feel of the mouse is a bit better with their method of acceleration. Not sure I'll pay money for it, in the end, but we'll see.
