Mac Mini CPU

Intel Minis can take Yonah or Merom chips up to 2.33ghz, but not Santa Rosa chips. I'd recommend some Arctic Silver 5 while you're in there 😉

Yup, C2D. The 2.33ghz is monster expensive though (cheapest is $680 at eWiz). You can get the 2ghz Core 2 Duo for $280 though, which is a heckuva lot cheaper. Add in a couple gigs of ram, a 7200rpm hard drive, and Pioneer DVR-K06 DVD burner and you're all set 😀

The mac mini can be quite the media machine once you give it the right upgrades. The video will never be great enough for crazy high definition content, but it makes a more than capable desktop machine for video and standard applications.

Huh? You can do just 1080p just fine as long as your Mini's CPU is fast enough. The GMA950 was designed for video. It can't do much out, but it's wonderful at HD video playback 😀

my 1.66ghz definitely has it's limits though......I even tried my work machine that has a hefty c2d and a quadro and it still had trouble with some special clips I threw at it🙁

Yeah the mac mini has a socket m because if you look at the yonah cpu the are socket m so that would lead me to believe that its socket m. So I've upgraded my mac mini from the factory to 2gb of ram, 250gb hdd, and a 2.33ghz cpu.
