Hi,

I'm currently looking to get another computer. Preferably cheap, with lots of power. Another factor is id like a mac, to get into the OS, and i think theyre sweet. I can only really afford the mac mini, so my option is that or build a PC from scratch.
I'm pretty much ready to get the highest power mac mini, IF it will do what i need.
Id like to know if the mac mini will run and allow easy and speedy use of a 3D graphics program such as 3D studio max?
any details would be greatly appreciated!
thanks alot
Jonny

I'm no expert on 3D modelling, but to run it off a mac mini would probably be VERY slow.

Do they make 3D Studio Max for OS X?
By looking at their website it looks like a windows only program.

BTW Anything Mac wise for Editing/Creation of 3D graphics etc.. I would recommend at least a G5 with lots of ram. MacMini is only a G4. Get an Imac or a Powermac(Best choice for what you are wanting to do.)

There's no way you can get by with a Mac mini using 3DSMAX, You'll definitely need a G5 class with 1GB RAM for decent performance. But with the money you're dumping on those G5's, you can almost afford the same performance on Windows PC and have ~$300-400 leftover.

I was poking around the Apple store yesterday comparing prices, and I think that an iMac is a far better deal than a mini when comparing price and power. Unless you don't mind cheaping out on a monitor for the mini.

Here's to hoping that they will be backwards compatible... but for some reason I'm thinking OSX will still only work on Macs even with the new procs.
