Mac Mail "Recovered Messages" Questions

I had to restore my 2012 Mac Mini from a Time Machine backup. When I went to open Mail, it needed to update (or something - I forgot the exact wording, sorry). This updating failed a couple times with no explanation, but seemed to work fine on the third try (I'm stubborn).

When I then opened Mail, everything seemed in order, and it works fine, except I now have five "Recovered Messages" folders "On My Mac." The folders correspond to five of my mail accounts (FYI, not Gmail). (Note: Because I save all my mail, I literally have thousands of e-mails and they are organized in folders.) These "Recovered Messages" folders each contain thousands of e-mails.

I have looked up about 20 or so of the e-mails in the "Recovered Messages" and compared them to what I have in my regular folders and all of them appear to be safely stored where they belong, making me think these "Recovered Messages" folders were created during the glitched attempts to update the folders, but that the third attempt was successful, preserving all my e-mails where they belong.

This leads me to a few questions:

1. Is there a good way to compare the contents of the "Recovered Messages" folders with the contents with my other folders to make sure all e-mails are accounted for?;

2. If I delete the contents of the "Recovered Messages" folders (and/or the entire folders), will it leave the other folders alone or are the messages connected in some way (alias?)?;

3. Any other ideas that will allow me to get rid of the "Recovered Messages" folders while making sure all of my e-mails are preserved?

Thanks.
