Can I use MAC address filtering for the pc?s that connect to an AP if this AP is plugged into my router/firewall/DHCP server? My AP is plugged into an uplink port on my router and I have manually entered its IP, subnet and gateway.

On the AP I have enabled WEP, and use Authentication Type ?shared key?.

Every thing works fine but I would like to use MAC filtering.

On most routers once the client is connected you add it's MAC address to the system and then enable MAC filtering. For what it's worth (as MAC address aren't encrypted) it may slow down hackers.

maybe i should use the Reserved IP Table on the router, i can enter the ip and mac address of the wireless pc's that connect through the AP which is plugged into the router.

my setup is: cable modem plugged into my router and an AP is plugged into one of the (auto uplink) ports on the router.

Just note that if the attacker is sophisticated enough to break WEP, it's almost garunteed that they're sophisticated enough to get past MAC address filtering.

In other words:
1) They break WEP.
2) They wait for one of the machines on the network to disconnect from it, then they assume the MAC address of that system.

Yes, it can slow hackers down. Should it make you sleep easier? Not really.

I use MAC filtering here to keep the neighbors out. I really doubt any of them are smart enough to hack, but many would be dumb enough to connect to the wrong wireless network and think they were using their own internet.

Well you could just use their internet then. :p
