Mac expo in 5 days >> osx for intel??

The day OSX comes out for X86 is the day I begin my migration from windows. I'd probably still dual boot for a while though, while the kinks get ironedout of X.

Of course, they'll have to also let us mess around with drivers/hardware more than OSX currently lets you. My friend's got a GF3 in his dual g4 Mac, but he can't even change any driver settings like FSAA or Aniso. Stupid...
 
The "big" thing is going to be new computer lines. Most people see G5's being unvieled, and the current G4's being put into iMac's that will be flat panel instead of CRT.

I'd love to see X on x86, but I doubt that's ever going to happen. Why would anyone buy a Mac if they could run X on a x86 box?

Its the name of the latest Mac operating system. OSX means Operating System version 10. I was fiddling around with a Mac at Circuit City a couple days ago, and OSX was pretty cool. If it was competitively priced, I'd pick it up.
 
OS X for Intel? That would be nice. I wouldn't get one, but it would be sweet!

Personally, I think the "big" news is a new line of Macs that use the new PowerPC G4 ("Apollo") CPU (running at 1GHz+). Motorola has confirmed that the new CPU ships early this year. So they will propably introduce the machines and demo them to the public, and they become avazilable in month or two.

Don't people realize that OSX will NEVER come out for the X86??? (no, I dont mean Darwin, I mean everything)
 
Apple relies too much on its hardware for income. If they release OSX on anything other than more expensive, Apple hardware, people would use the cheaper, non-Apple hardware and Apple wouldn't get the money from the hardware.

I've also heard arguments of whether all that new snazzy interface stuff could even effectively run on an x86, though I'm not sure how you could substantiate such a claim.

Ages ago, Apple tried PPC clones (or was it before Apple made the jump to PPC?) and they got hurt badly for it.
 
So let's see, Apple can't even get full OS X compatibility with their own hardware, and people actually think that they are going to release an x86 version of OS X?

Care to explain where all the hardware support is going to magically come from?

It would be nice to have OS X on my Intel box. However, for the time being I'll have to settle for Virtual PC (see above) on my Mac.

By the way, Darwin for x86 works, but I don't expect to see a working version of OS X (or OS XI) for x86 for several years.
