mac emulation help

Hey, all.

I've always been curious about Macs, and when I finally got my SSE3-capable Sempron, I considered installing that vmware version of OS X Tiger. But, alas, that's too much hassle even for my curiosity, so I have contented myself with Windows.

Then I discovered "Mac emulation." Apparently, I can use special software to create a virtual Mac environment on my Windows PC. This sounds like a grand idea, but I've run into a few problems....

....first and foremost, where are all my programs? When I maximize a window, all my other windows blink out of view. How do I get back to them?

Secondly, Objectbar is overlapping Objectdock. How do I make them separate, while keeping Objectbar on top? Or should Objectdock be on the bottom?

Where you left them. If you're talking about the executables, they should be in /Applications. If you're talking about the ones you are currently running: STOP MAXIMIZING STUFF. You can also click on the icon in the dock to bring that application's windows to the front. The icons in the dock that have a little arrow under them are the ones currently running.

Thanks for your input, but I'm still confused. You can't maximize windows in OS X without losing access to all other windows? That doesn't sound right.

It sounds like you are using programs to modify the appearance of Windows rather than emulating OSX. There is a big difference.

"Maximize" doesn't really exist in OS X. It's a waste of screen space for most things.

You can click on the running program's icon in the dock to bring that program's windows to the front. So you don't lose access to them or anything. Stop using Windows when you're using OS X.

He's not using OS X, he's using a GUI skin for Windows that makes it look like OS X.

maximizing a window in OS X usually involves dragging the bottom right corner to the size you want the window to be. As the other posters said, there is not a whole lot of reasons to maximize windows in OSX because every window doesn't have that standard background window like in windows. Maximize is usually only used for web browsers and the such where you want to read with less scrolling.
