Mac book recovery

just put the dvd in the drive, if it doesn't boot off it automatically, hold down the option key on boot and it'll come up with a boot menu.
 
Well, i got it working, but i have a issue
a message pops up saying - you cannot install this software on this computer
any ideas ?

C key automatically boots off the cd.

Option key gives you a selection of bootable devices on your machine.

Likely its a wrong recovery cd set.
 
Yea.. i had Apple send me the wrong discs when I ordered a refurb Mac mini a year or so ago. Hopefully you have Applecare, because if not.. it's $50 for a new set. 🙁

Is this a new MacBook? That is, a Santa Rosa? (Look at the keyboard, if there is no Nums Lock key, it is Santa Rosa). If it is, and you are using someone else's recovery disks that are for an older MacBook, they will not work. MacBook Pro will not work in a MacBook, MacBook Core Duo will not work in a MacBook Core 2 Duo.

If you still have the old drive, and a SATA-USB cable, what you might want to do is drop the old drive back in, install Carbon Copy Cloner (Or SuperDuper) and then clone that old drive to the new one and make the new one bootable. Then, boot off the USB to confirm and simply drop the new drive in. You can get these cables for like $20 at a local computer shop.

Or, do that before he installs... i always forget about that part.
 
It is DDR2-667 SO-DIMMs. All the Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo systems use this RAM.
