Mac Book Pro - reliability?

ive just read a review where the reviewer has gone through 5 MBP's in about 3 months and he'd RMA'd his 4th one about 3 times before it was just replaced with a 5th

the only consolation is that apple seemed to bend over backwards to make it right for him, even exchanging his faulty MBP's without a sales reciept. (this is not a reviewer such as anandtech, just a joe public review on notebookreview.com)

15inch macbookpro seems expensive though, looking at around £1300+ with the Higher education discount. thats not too much of a big deal, though the screens awkward res of 1440x900 is a bit of a let down.

The Core Duo MBP's (spring-summer '06) did have a lot of problems specifically with heat and noise. The Core 2 Duo MBP's do not have a lot of the problems the original MBP's had. If you do get a MBP, I would definitely recommend Applecare

oh right, im just wondering really

im really stuck at the moment at what i want/need. i originally planned to get a 20inch imac, but now im not so sure. im giving serious thought to ASUS's range of notebooks and a mac book pro. but i just cant decide which. i've got about a month to decide
