Hello.

My gf has a bunch of photo files on a portable hard drive written with from a mac. Basically i take it there is no way to read them on a pc.

i read somewhere that if you format a drive NTFS a mac can then read from it but cant write to it.

basically she has just gotten into freelance retouching, and at this point she expects to get mos t of her files from macs so in order to be able to simply transfer them to here at home, she is going to have to get a mac?

basically, it goes like this: since MS never told anyone how to write to NTFS, OS X and Linux can read NTFS but not write to it. if you want a drive that both a mac and a pc can use, format it using FAT32.

if you want to write to the OS X formatted drive through windows, there is an app called MacDrive that can let windows do that.
