MAC addresses and windows Domains

I would like to know how important the mac address of a computers network card is in a windows domain (using active directory)? The reason I ask this is because I was playing with RIS and I had a spare system that had a pxe enabled nic in it but I couldn't get it to install an OS. I originally had that same nic on another computer that was connected to the domain. I ended up using the onboard nic of the machine that was already on the domain and reestablishing it on the domain, once I did that the spare system was able to do a network install.
I just want to know if that was why I was having issues or if it was because of something else I did.

Might be a long shot, but if the NIC was conencted to the lan, well obviously it works.
Now imagine this: for some reason when it was connected to the lan, and FORCED into 100Mbps mode. It would still work UNTIL you used the nick to try and load via RIS b/c RIS only works 10Mbps. Its a possibility.
