M6809 Cracked Hinges

The hinges, where the screen connects to the motherboard, have small cracks on each side.

The screen is still stable and stands up, but the cracks annoy me.

Will emachines repair this under the standard 1 year warranty?

I really don't want to be without my beloved emachines for more than an hour.

Will the cracked hinges problem affect me, or is it just cosmetic?

I think its just cosmetic. I bought my m6809 back in early July, and my crack appeared a couple of weeks ago.

Does anybody know how long it will take for me to get my laptop back from eMachines if I do send it in for service? I don't think the cracks affect anything, but they are ugly.

Head to notebookforums.com. There is anextensive thread about it, including posts from a eMachines rep. They are being replaced, but since the "good" parts have just recently started coming in, there is a waiting list right now for getting the repair scheduled. It appears they send you a box to ship it in, and you send it back (they even pay for that) and get it back in about 3 business days.

And yes, it seems to be only cosmetic. It is actually just the hinge cover, not the hinge itself.
