Wonder how much the V10 engine cost since the e60 M5 MSRP at around $90K. If the cost of dropping the v10 into a e90 3 series cost the same as the new 400HP e90 M3 which one would you rather have?

Bet a fair piece is the extra metal that was dropped in the 3 Series (for ths slow, the V10).

I just wish they'd put that engine in a good looking car. The 3 is an improvement over the 5, but still....

Actually I think the M5 looks better than the 3 series, though they're both ugly as hell. On the bright side, the 3 series coupe looks nice . . .

My... That is like Drunken Master Video. And they think it will make a movie? On large screen, bring a barf bag.

Nice, I like the paintwork, oh yea and the engine isn't too bad either ;). Bummer for the flappy paddles though

A few years ago they did something similar by wedging the V-12 from the 8-series into an M3.

Totally without merit.

It's a ?145,000 vehicle (Just north of $185k USD). I can think of many better things with that kind of cash.

For instance:

Porsche 997 TT & a 5 Series BMW

Basically, this thing is a technical showcase. No one is going to actually buy something like this.

Heck, drop a $12,995 Chevy LS7 into a base 3 series and it'll be faster, easier to drive fast (better power curves) and way way cheaper. In fact, it'll handle better too, since its a much lighter engine.

I would assume that would completely ruin the driving characteristics of the 3 series due to the differences in the weight of the engine.
Not for sure, but I sure as hell wouldnt do it. If I want raw speed thats one thing, but if I was getting an M series I'm concerned about more then point A to point B performance.

*EDIT*

Piss on it. After watching the vid...BADASS. Driving characteristics be damned, I want one! :D

If you want raw power, just get a corvette......

BMW's straight 6's are already pretty heavy, I doubt the V-10 weighs a whole lot more. They have a pretty similar footprint, the V-10 is just a bit wider.

Also depends on how they were able to mount the thing. If they were able to get it low enough and far enough back it wouldn't make a huge change in the handling.

wow...thats insane.

though i prefer the stock 2006 BMW M5. no nonsense and crap added to the car (wheels, exhaust for "more" power, etc).

and i do like the 5 series look over the 3 series look.

Actually, I think the N52 is surprisingly light considering it's a BMW engine. Magnesium alloy AJ62 casting was supposed to save about 30%. It comes in 22 lbs lighter than the M54. The M54 comes in at 170 kg, which is 375 lbs.

The S85 is 529 lbs, fully dressed. This means the N52 at 353 lbs is 176 lbs lighter.
