Apple finally made a decent GPU architecture for once.
So I made this thread to post proper benchmarks related to the M5 GPU.

Will be used for LLMs tests, gaming and rendering.

The M5 GPU architecture “Apple10” is a much more area performant architecture and each GPU core is properly utilised leading to huge uplifts in rasterisation and in ray traced workloads even more than M3 -> M4 which introduced RT cores. It also includes tensor cores useful for prefil and Topez etc.

The performance per watt is also very good. Previous architectures from Apple lacked good PPA and had weak performance for the price you paid relative to dGPUs from Nvidia. The Pro and Max variants should scale well and offer a better overall package now.

I could go further into detail but it’s better to wait till next week where we can see actual tests.

I haven't had time to do much more than look at the highlights for new new M5 MBP from threads here, but I was intrigued by the reported uplifts in graphics improvements.

The posts here have certainly helped to explain why it's such a large jump despite the paper specs not suggesting as much of an uplift.

yea it’s smart design. Increasing performance without increasing GPU area/adding more cores so the cost doesn’t balloon.

My expectation is that the 10 core M5 GPU should be on par with the 14 core M3 Pro in GPU bound tasks.

If this increase extends to the entire M5 chip line, there is a chance that the M5 Max could match or even surpass the 5090 laptop.

That's still only a single sample but that score is ahead a 9060XT and below B570 for Blender 4.5.
