M3N-HD/HDMI or M3N-HT and the AMD 9850BE

Hey everyone.

The power supply fan died on my six year old (!) computer a few days ago, and I don't feel like putting any money into something so obsolete. I was going to wait for Nehalem to come out, but what the hell...my computer is broken now so why not do it?

Anyway, I've designed a very nice system around the AMD 9850 Black Edition. All over newegg, there are lots of "horror stories" (1 star ratings) about how a lot of the motherboards are having problems with it (failure to POST, random resets, etc.). I want to build a RAID5 array, that leaves me basically with the ASUS offerings built around the nVidia 750 and 780 chipsets, since the ATI chipsets all seem to be 0, 1, 0+1 only. I've been looking at the M3N-HD/HDMI, as its much more in my price range than the M3N-HT Deluxe. I am wondering what people's experiences here are with either of these motherboards and:

-Phenom 9850 BE

-8 GB of DDR2 1066 RAM

That second item comes from one of the questions I have about ASUS boards that ASUS won't really answer: their official documentation lists "quality assured" memory, but none of it is DDR2 1066 (which seems to be more or less the point of AM2+, aside from the upgrade path). Some of their other ATI boards have it, but no one seems to officially support ANY 2GB modules. I wanted to buy 8 GB, or 2 x (2 x 2), since its less than $300, but again I'm a bit afraid of the horror stories where the computer cycles power, turns off randomly, or does something else that means I've wasted hundreds of dollars. This stuff is so new, its hard to find out what definitely works and what doesn't. Its a bit intimidating for a first time builder. Anyway, since I haven't actually purchased anything yet, I thought I'd see if anyone else has had success with these products.

Thanks!

You could just replace the power supply or the fan. It would be a shame to just throw out a working computer. Donate it if you have to.

(Not saying that you yourself have to keep using that computer. It sounds fairly obsolete. P3 by any change?)
