Hi my fellow "geeks"

About a week ago i upgraded my PC from a C2D - E8200/P5K/2X1GBKingston DDR2 800 Value RAM to a PhenomII X3 720BE/M3A78-T/1X2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800. My Graphics Card is a Radeon 4850 from MSI. I'm having one little issue with the motherboard being that when i switch my machine on it sometimes wont post. The fans and drives are all spinning but no post beep. I then reset it and then most of the time it will post. I know this is nothing serious as the machine is working perfectly fast once i get it into Vista, but its really annoying. Yes i did upgrade my bios to the latest version(0802) from the Asus website. If anyone can help me solve this little problem it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You

I have this problem, Except I can't get it to boot unless I reset the bios. Everyday. No overclocking and all the voltages are correct. Take a look at Asus's forum, there are many people with similar problems. After contacing Asus tech support with my problem, they immediately told me to send it back to my vendor. However I get the feeling this is a bios problem, judging by how many people with different hardware are afflicted.

Kind of interesting is that my system is almost identical to yours.

Phenom 2 X3 720be
Asus Radeon 4850 top
4GB of Gskill ddr2 800
2 x500GB WD black
500W rosewill power supply.

Thanks for your reply superunknown98. Initially i got the same feeling that its a bios thing so no need to send mine back i hope. Ill wait a bit for a bios update and see what happens. i really like this MB. So have you updated your bios yet ? One hint...disable express gate, its really a stupid feature. Yeah i noted that aswell, almost identical systems. One of my friends got his stuff on Friday last week also exactly the same items as mine. Ill give him a call later to ask him if hes got the same issue i have. Ill go check the ASUS forums now, thanks.

As off now my board is off to the vendor, so I'll let you know when i get mine back. It's funny, my board shipped with the 802 bios, so I tried the 701 bios and still had the same problem. I also noticed that If i did not turn expressgate off after resetting the bios, the board would not boot even after the bios reset. This really sucks because, like you said, It seems to be a great board so far. I did notice though that the audio volume is much lower than my previous Abit board. Have you noticed that?

LOL...i forgot to check my bios version before i flashed, i just went and flashed. For all i know it was the same one. I was actually planning on getting the M4A78-E but it wasn't in stock yet so i had to act quickly and this one was the next best choice for only few bucks cheaper, i couldn't wait. Do you now if there is any real big diff besides the only 2 pci-ex slots and the name? No i haven't noticed the audio volume being lower yet. Suppose i don't really play my sound at max anyway. Thanks, yeah let me know on any news and ill keep you updated as well. Ill be checking these forums regularly.

It looks like the M4A78-E trades a physical x16 pcie for a 1x, has only 1 ps2 port, a VIA audio chip and takes ddr3 memory only.

No, the one you are talking about is the M4A78T-E not the M4A78-E without the "T". The one i wanted is a DDR2 board. See this link ASUS M4A series. I think ill wait a while till new bios is available for mine and see if it fixes my issue. Most new boards are known for their bugs, especially if you pair a newer processor with them. Hope you get your new board soon without any problems. Gonna go sleep now...Chrz;)

I got my board back from my vendor and have had it for a few days. They sent the same board back, but replaced the button battery that powers the bios when not plugged in. I am currently not running it inside a case and have it on the asus box. But it has only not booted on me, once. So i'll have to put it back in the case and see how it goes from there.

So i took my system back to my supplier and after a lot of testing and re testing no one really could find what the source of this problem so they decided to credit it for me. We think its some kind of PSU/Motherboard/Processor combination incompatibility. Im only replacing the motherboard and PSU to a ASUS M4A78-E and Coolermaster Silent pro 600W so its actually a little upgrade and im actually glad!! Now im getting the motherboard i originally wanted...whoohoo!! Should have it by Wednesday next week.
