I've seen several of the miata to z3 conversions and I really don't get it. It would be one thing to build a fake exotic but used z3s aren't very expensive.

Maybe the Miata is easier (or costs less to fix) to maintain, more reliable, cheaper insurance, or something along those lines. I don't really know that much about z3s, just thinking.

Doubt it, more like you have some dumb ass working minimum wage at McDonalds trying to act the player with his fake mocked up bling bling. Such a person is likely to buy, no, finance a $5000 Miata and dress it up to look like a BMW because he can't afford the $20,000 for a real one.
