m2n-e mobo + Phenom II dual core 555 am3

So I read all around that I needed to update my BIOS to 3001 to make the Phenom II work on my m2n-e mobo. After a bit of frustration I finally got it updated. So now I think I'm ready to install the CPU once it comes in the mail.

My questions are:

1. Will there be a noticeable performance from my Athalon 64 X2?
2. Are there any other steps I need to take to make sure my Phenom II will work without any problems?

Thanks 🙂

It should be much faster. You might also be able to unlock additional cores. Judging from what I have seen it seems that somewhere around 30-40% of the cpus can unlock(some of them might need a tad more voltage to be stable with extra cores unlocked).

Is there a guide to unlocking cores? I'm not big on the overclocking thing, but if I could make it a tri or a quad that would be pretty cool, just as long as it's not a hard process.

Damn, that stinks. I'm sure I'll upgrade my motherboard eventually, but I'll just stick to what I have for now. As long as my Phenom II works with it I'm happy.

Well if you can't unlock cores I would suggest looking at Athlon II X3 and X4 cpus. For the same price as a 555 you can get a 4 core AthlonII but the 3 cores are the real bargains at around 70$ for a 3GHz part(I bought one for my dad and he loves it).
