Question M2 Slots

I am assembling a system with:
Asus Z390-p motherboard
Intel I-7 7900k
Samsung 970 Pro 1 terabyte
Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 terabyte

The board has one PCIE3x4 slot and one PCIE3x2 slot. My intent is to put the 970 Pro in the PCIE3x4 slot and use it for OS and Apps. I want to put the 970 Evo in the PCIE3x2 slot and use it for storage of files. I.m assuming the 970 Evo will function in the PCIE3x2 slot. If so, what effect will this have on the 970 Evo?

Mostly it will just limit sequential read/write speeds to ~1700MB/s. It may have a small impact on randoms but I doubt it would be anything significant.

Thanks for the reply. I just built a machine for my wife using an Asus h370 board. I used A 970 pro in the PCIE3x4 M2 slot and A 860 SATA drive in the second slot. I figured even at PCIE3x2 the second drive in this machine would probably be faster.
