Hello Fellow builders,

I am trying to figure out a storage solution for my upcoming build.

I mostly use it for Gaming and thinking maybe streaming in the near future. I also plan on ripping my blu-ray(25x)/dvd(50x) collection soon. Mapping out the amount of storage I currently have and plan on using I am looking for some input on the feasibility of my proposed setup.

Specs:

M.2 evo 850 pro 256GB for OS and some common programs.

2x Evo 850 250GB ssds in Raid0 for Steam library

2x Seagate barracuda 3tb HDDs in Raid1 for active back of the three above drives and mass storage.

WD MyCloud 3-4tb for "offsite" back up.

I already own one Evo 850 and one Seagate drive thus buying duplicates will make Raid more "stable/compatible?"

Why raid 0 on the evo 850s? You are just asking for trouble unless you don't care about redownloading everything. Why not just get a 500gb evo or spend a little more for the 1tb evo? In my new build I use a 256gb 850evo for OS and apps and then a 1tb evo 850 for games. The 3tbs barracudas in raid1 is a good call though.

I would be backing up the Raid0 array on the Raid1 array. So I would assume the only down time would be purchasing the new drive, if drive failure happens, and starting from last back up. Unless I am missing something with backing up steam libraries?

SSDs on RAID0 seem like a waste of time to me.

On topic, I think what you're thinking of is called RAID 5.
