m1697 + m1567 aka pcie single chip + agp southbridge

i have seen the reports about this well configured board setup and also the reports about being pairable with the m1695 northbridge for true 2 x16 pcie slots, but i wanted to know if anyone has heard any rumors/reports of a board with the m1697 and m1567 chips... full pcie, sata2, HD audio, excellent USB, and agp would be very nice. my agp card is still good for another year or better, and i do not wish to have to upgrade it. it would be nice if asrock upgraded their m1695 to the m1697...

i checked uli's website, and they do not release data sheets to the public. anyone know if these chips are drop in replacements?

also, the m1697 is supposed to be crossfire compatible!

No worky. From the published block diagrams, the 1697 is not a HyperTransport tunnel like the 1695 is. Remember, the term "northbridge" is wildly inaccurate for this chip, since all it does is pass HT through and branch PCIE off.

This makes the 1695 a part that can tap into any HyperTransport link, like inbetween an AMD64 CPU and any chipset (as has been done with the 1695+1567 combo, wherein the 1567 is actually the plain normal 1689 single-chip AGP chipset). The 1697 is a "cave", meaning the HyperTransport chain ends there.

This would be a nice board. It's a shame the only uli 1695 based board is the asrock, i only have an 9700 pro AIW but i think it's fine for now. BUt i do want to upgrade to a dual core and all those are PCI-e.

Isn't that obvious? 😉

The 1695 goes in front of the 1697. The HT chain is CPU-1695-1697.

To solve your request, one could however put an AMD8151 HT-AGP tunnel in front of the 1697 ... the beauty of HT lets you do that 🙂
