BMW unveils concept M135i
With last year's BMW 1 Series M Coupe out of production, BMW has another idea for a small stormer — this hatchback, the M135i, powered by a twin-turbo straight six engine good for at least 300 hp. Bet on BMW building these in small numbers at a high price (some dealers attempted a $20,000 markup on the $50,000 M Coupe) with a few reaching America.

Honest question sir: what kind of individual purchases a 50k hatchback?

Ie, no mental picture of such a person comes to mind! 😛

It even says on there that they might be jacking the price another 20K because so few are coming to the US.

Neat car, but there are clearly better options for 50-70K.

The current top of the line 1 is listed at 2.0L/218hp

No, the 135 has a 3.0 I6 turbo at an under-rated 300HP. The M1 (or whatever it is called) sold quickly and is very hard to find especially close to MSRP. I suspect the M hatch will be just as difficult to get at MSRP.

Instead of homolgation specials we now have top gear specials. Cars produced in such few numbers only Jezza and the uber lucky get to have them.

Get a manual 135 and build it up yourself.

Yeah. I just pulled up the info from wiki, I guess it was wrong.

Wow, that is very ugly compared to the 135 M. I don't understand the hot hatch scene either, but it is big in Europe.

Not here in the US...the top 1 series (135i) comes with a 300HP inline 6. The 1M Couple has an even more potent inline 6. Are you referring specifically to the hatch?

Either way...the pricing of BMW's has gotten way out of hand...and that is coming from a huge fan. Getting way beyond justification for the price.
