I'm having a problem getting Windows98 SE to run correctly on this mobo. Microsoft's knowledge base support files have suggested that one of the issues may be that the IDE bus needs to be serialized between the primary and secondary channels. I have a Maxtor 7200 RPM 13.6GB hard drive connected to the Primary Master channel and a cheapie 52X cdrom and Hitachi CDRW on the secondary ide master and slave channels respectively. Windows is able to install correctly right up until it's loading to go into the first-time REAL use of windows, and then it halts. Microsoft's site suggests that if the IDE channels cannot correctly serialize, then the NOIDE string is inserted into the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControllerSet\Services\VxD\IOS. However, when I booted into Safe Mode, successfully I might add, I didn't find the NOIDE value inserted in the registry.

This issue can occur if your computer has an IDE controller that requires serialization between the primary and secondary IDE channels. THe protected-mode drivers for these IDE controllers may not be initialized if one of the following situations occurs:
1. If one IDE channel has a supported hard disk, and the second channel has a CD-ROM or another type of drive that requires Real-mode drivers. Because there must be serialization between the two IDE channels, Windows cannot access the hard disk in Protected-mode and use the other device in Real mode. When this occurs, the Protected-mode driver is not initialized that the NOIDE switch is placed in the registry to prevent future errors. Both disk services can then operate in Real mode.

This describes perfectly my problem that I'm having, except that I can't seem to run Windows in Real-mode. I have tried disabling 32 bit access to the drive, but that doesn't solve the issue. I've flashed the bios to the newest version, but that also provided no results. Does anyone know anything about this issue or how to resolve it?
