I just finished reading the uncut version of "The Stand". Anybody else had a chance to read this great book?

No, but saw the movie. It was OK. I really need to go find a good library I guess.

Bah, the movie sucked. The book was awesome. The first time I read it (the uncut version) I finished it in two days. :D

I got a nasty cold when I was reading the first section of the book where the superflu was killing everyone. That was fun.

The first half of the book moved too slow. I finished the last half a lot faster than the first half. I want to check the movie out though at some point.

I liked it, but by far the best end of the world novel is "Lucifer's Hammer"

wait, there's a cut version?!?!?!??!??! if someone asks for a condensed version of the stand they need to be taken behind the woodshed and shot in the back of the skull execution style.

and yes, I did read it. I loved it actually, I like apocalyptic books like that. What did you think of it?

I enjoyed it thoroughly. I have a fascination with Flagg, because he appears in a lot (all?) of his books. I've read Dark Tower 1-5 and Eyes of the Dragon, along with this one. I've enjoyed all of the books that I've read from him.

I was a bit disappointed by the ending, though. The hand of God literally swoops down and saves the day. It was a bit of a let down, considering the great build up to the final confrontation. That's been a problem I've had with a lot of King's books. The build up is great and the characters are fun, but the climax either feels lacking or leaves you with a huge "WTF?" reaction. Dreamcatcher is another one where I was let down a bit by the ending.

IMHO, Dean Koontz is a a bit better in that literary genre because he tends to wrap up things a bit better. Watchers, for example, came to a really nice ending that felt really right for the story. Too bad every time they seriously screwed it up when they tried to make a movie out of it backin 1988. They turned the main character from a throubled ex-soldier in his 30s into a tennaged kid played by Cory Haim. Bad.

Yes, I read it years ago-great book.

The 4 part mini-series isn't bad either.

The irony was great though. "My life for you" says trashcan man all throughout the book, and he ends up screwing the dark man over anyways. I liked the ending.

Koontz is a little more unpredictable... there's no way to tell hwt he'll do to his characters next, and he doesn't shy away from killing them in the end either, which makes the read a little more thrilling.
