\m/ Metallica \m/ Some Kind Of Monster

I saw it and would consider myself a Metallica fan, but a waning one. (perhaps my tastes grew a bit) I found much of it interesting, but little more than a super Behind the Music. It was interesting to see a more in-depth showing of the dynamics within the band. Also most interesting were the scenes with Dave Mustane.

However, by the end of the film I found myself annoyed at the perpetual whining of each band member. To be honest, I feel that my previous view of the band and their *manly* partying ways, though based in ignorance was more favorable than now knowing about their "struggles" and their "feelings."

This film is for devout Metallica fans. This film is not for metal fans in general. Metallica, in my mind, will forever be clouded with an association to whining wankers.

For what it's worth....

He was last. He came in to replace Cliff. When you replace an original member, you don't always seem to belong.

The deal with him (as explained in the flick) was that James wanted nothing to be bigger than the band... but Jason had to exercise his creativity with other stuff. James didn't want any of that within the band.

Newstead definitely got screwed with a lot. However he did end up getting a pretty sweet deal by coming into Metallica as they were getting more popular and mainstream (and more $$$). There are some who say Jason helped bring them into popularity as well so he deserves a lot of credit. But yes he did put up with a lot of crap initially and probably got tired of being seen as "not an original member".

St anger didn?t live up to its hype, shown by the sales. I thought the unnamed feeling, frantic, st anger were ok but the rest of the album was pretty dry and each song sounded like it was done by some half assed metal band that are so common these days. It didn?t sound like metallica.

I am a lars and newstead fan, I think kurt's great but he seems to sit on the fence a bit, yeah sure lars can be arrogant and have an ego bigger then hatfields bank account but he?s very smart and perceptive, not to mention 1st class drummer. I feel so sorry for newstead, he could never replace burton but there was no need for the abuse and sh*t he took off hetfield.

you really gotta get their names right if you want to qualify as any real fan. 😉 It's Kirk and it's Newsted.
