RS is the designation for their top of the line autos

Whomever was responsible for saying Quatrro is misinformed. Quattro is the high-performance answer(AWD) to old-school 4WD which Audi pioneered, and everyone has copied

I realise that Quattro is the name of the 4WD technology but I was also under the impression that it was the name of their high performance division.

I would assume its Audi Sport since theyre responsible for their motorsport program.

Their high-performance models are badged S and RS.

It is. It is a subsidiary company just like AMG.

Audi Sport handles their motorsport program... like their touring car efforts and their sportscar teams... that have been winning races for maybe 3 years now with what looks like the same car in the R8... hahaha. Even the Bentley that dominated LeMans last year was effectively an Audi.

Quattro gmbh is responsible for all kinds of stuff... including the RS4 which never got here ... and the RS6. theyre also responsible for putting all that techno-gadgets and luxury customizations on their cars like the A8. So they're not really only a dedicated in-house tuning program like BMWs M and MBs AMG since they fiddle with other things than the engine.
