First, I want to apologize if this is not the right section. If so please let me know if I need to delete this post and post it in a different section. OK, I got the M-audio BX5 D2 connected to my PC with http://community.m-audio.com/m-audio/.... The motherboard is Asus Maximus Hero IV and the sound card is SupremeFX. I hear crackling sounds and white noise. I tried with swapping the jacks and everything but still I hear the noise. I changed the cable and still there is the same issue. The crackling sounds appear every time I move the mouse or scroll up and down with it. When I connect the monitors to a phone or a tablet there is no noise or crackling sounds at all. I've tried it with several devices.

Any ideas guys? And if I need to get an external sound card what is your advice on that? I was thinking of getting this one:

But Some people say that there is no need if it is only for listening to music and that I can get something cheaper?

So you confirmed the cable and speakers are good because you changed the source and it worked fine.

Have you plugged a pair of headphones or something into the motherboard mini jack? If your hear noise there then you could have a faulty digital to analog converter or possible the drivers need updating.

Yes I have a pair of Sony MDR-v6 that I use as well, tried it in the front and the back.. no issues with them

so analog out from the computer is fine into the sony mdr-v6? But analog out to the bx5's result in crackling.

does the crackling happen at all volume levels? i.e Lower the volume in the computer and adjust on the speakers to desired level max loudness. With them both being analog outs Im suspecting gain stage issues.

The scrolling and mouse moment stuff is crazy.

Yes the crackling happens at all volume levels, well if you turn down the volume it will go lower, but you can still hear it. Right now the monitors are set at a little higher then the mid sound and the PC is set to max sound so that I don't hear it that much. But you can still hear it. I know that the scrolling and mouse moment stuff is crazy, but.. And yes the Sony mdr-v6 sound is crystal clear. This is why I think that may be I should go with an external sound card or something like the focusrite scratlett solo or or 2i2 (not sure if there is any sense of getting the 2i2 as I don't think that it will improve the sound?)

Well if it gets rid of the crackle it will increase the sound quality. :)

I'm honestly stumped as to what is wrong. It's very strange as nothing seems failed. The only other thing and i suspect it's not a problem is using unbalanced output with a balanced input. As I said it shouldn't be an issue.

I would not max the output of your computer. Put it around 75% and adjust the monitors to your liking. If you get a sound card try to find one that has a volume control on it.

What you're saying sounds like a dirty potentiometer. There are a ton of vids online on what to do if that's the problem.

Since it doesn't seem to happen from a tablet, it might be there's poor isolation between the USB jacks and the analog audio. I'd maybe unhook the front audio header entirely and move the mouse to a plug farther away from the audio outs.

Hello, I've tried to plug the Monitors to the front panel and the mouse is USB in the back and still the same thing. Now one really stupid question, something that I really don't know how to check.. JSt0rm mentioned about using "unbalanced output with a balanced input". How can I actually check that? I have no idea..

Thats odd but they are studio monitors, there could be some incompatibility with the underpowered on board sound. Did you check the ohm out put on the onboard sound and the ohm input on the monitors? That could easilly cause this, in which case an ohm converter could work. of course a scarlett from f\ocusrite isnt a bad call either

OK, so I've decided to get the Scarlett 2i2. Adorama has it on sale for 100$ and usually it is 150$.. Do you think that they are going to drop more on BlackFriday or not? Usually the deal is 50$ off, so I'm not sure that they are going to give better deal than this one. Anyways, what do you think?

Wow I know this thread is OLD but I have the exact same issue......I mean EXACT. I thought it was my motherboard and bought a $150 USB external sound card and it helped as I can only hear the noise when the volume would be louder than I would ever have it but the noise when moving the mouse was plain as day. I bought this from amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MXJ83G4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s04?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and used my motherboards optical output and the noise was almost completely gone. I just upgrade my motherboard and CPU and figured the noise would be gone and it's back worse than ever even with the adapter. Seriously WTF I guess it has something to do with the BX5's
