I've been asking this question all over the net but nobody has bothered to answer yet, and i need to know before tomorrow, so please answer me :p

Anyway...

A friend of mine just bought this card for recording and playback on his computer, but i was wondering about it.

I know the card is very good, however, apparetly he rans on a old Dell with (for what i gather) 128mb, a k6 3d (propably around 450mhz, if not less), with an integrated audio card. (no idea about his video board).

Now, that system falls under the minimum specifications, but as we all know listed minimum systems are usually a crock.

I wonder, is that PC enought to run that card decently ?!?

All he needs to do is record his guitar and/or keyboard and mix it togheter (he probably needs up to 8 channels, maximum, probably no more then 2-4 most of the time), can that be done without problems with 128mb ?!?

Also, looking at the card i've noticed it doesn't come with regular connectors.

I was wondering, does he need to buy an external box in order to plug his keyboard, guitar and regular computer speakers ?!? If so, what kind do you suggest ?!? (one that is not too expensive)

I used to have a Delta 66.

These M-Audio cards are great sounding cards. I'm not sure that this card has a mic in so he may need a mic preamp. I'm not sure about this but I do know the Delta 66 DID NOT have a mic input.

He computer will be fast enough to use the card for recording but it might be dicey with only 128MB of RAM, could be some audio dropouts.

The problem will come with mixing up to 8 tracks without dropouts with his system. I don't know what software he'll be using, but if he going to be using any plug-ins, I would expect trouble with his system, considering the low RAM and the fact that the K6-III has a notoriously slow floating point unit, essential for most dx plugins in audio software.

Hope this helps.

to follow up, this card is not a good idea for 5.1 speakers. m-audio released their new card "revolution" .. i'd get that card, but its a tad expensive.

since i run on HD600's, im using a converter for the headphones that came with my sound card (bought it used).
