In the wake of Yahoo! charging $19.99 for pop access, this seems like a much better deal to me. Lycos mail is now offering what they called Lycos Mail Plus. 25mb of disk storage space, with free pop access, and no ads, for $19.95/yr. Just seems like a much better deal than the Yahoo! deal.

Yeah, if you're not getting your own email then save the money and sign up with an isp. A better choice would be to sign up a domain name with godaddy ($9/yr) and either forward emails with FREE mydomain.com or sign up with an email package.

Exactly.

Here's a cheaper solution AND it comes with website hosting:
$8.95 Register a domain with GoDaddy.com
$3.90 Website hosting and POP3, IMP WebMail Accts & FTP Accts with CyberWings.com which includes 110MB webspace, 6GB of bandwidth per month, and a whole lot more.
===============
$12.85 per year

I have/had a free lycos account. I started out back before they merged with terra and mailcity (i actually had the mailcity one). Their customer service is terrible -- yeah I know... You get what you pay for -- free stuff == no service. They upgrade their servers every so often (aka scheduled stuff going down) and I have managed to lose so far, five years worth of addressbook data, ability to change my password, access to the account period -- for weeks on end after "upgrades to the servers". Access will suddenly disappear and reappear. Save your money, and do as suggested above or if you have to spend the money -- spend it elsewhere. If they were a reseller, I would give them a rating of 1.0/7.0 (hey I gotta give some props for the free email access).
