Lycoris (Redmond Linux), wow what an easy to install Linux distro

I saw the MSNBC article on Lycoris (which is the new name for Redmond Linux), so I decided to give it a try. I downloaded the ISO from Linuxiso.org, burned it, booted with it, and within 25 minutes it was completely setup and ready to go.

Immediately after the install was done, I was able to boot into KDE at 1280x1024, access the internet, and even samba was automatically setup and was immediately able to see my Windows XP computers by using the Network Browser icon on the desktop. On top of that, the default browser (mozilla) is already setup with Flash, Java, Real Player (I hate it, but damn it if I have to have it). Then, as if it couldn't get any better, I pop in a DVD, and Xine pops up, and starts playing the DVD (although it runs slower than crap, but that's another issue). Color me impressed, easiest OS install this side of Windows XP I've ever seen.

Can you provide some screen shots? 😉

Edit: Nemind, I found it at lycoris.com 😉

BTW, how does this compare to Mandrake 8.2?

I haven't used Mandrake 8.2, but I've used 8.1. I have to say, so far I like it better. The SAMBA thing really impressed me, because I struggled with Mandrake for two days to get SAMBA going correctly, and Lycoris has it setup immediately.
