lunchtime thread: I couldn't do it...

I couldn't do it...

My wife had some Red Lobster leftovers - some shrimp dish... so she throws it in with some pasta and makes a lunch out of it for me. I personally don't like seafood - don't see the appeal. So I'm looking at this bowl of pasta, italian sausage, and shrimp... and I couldn't do it even though I told her I would. I left the sea insects on one side of the bowl while I finished the rest (barely was able to with that sight on my plate). I can't eat insects, let alone ones that have been dead and unfresh for so many hours.

Ugh. I get the cajun chicken alfredo at Red Lobster - it's the best.

I had some of the same yesterday (replace sausage with bacon and tomatos). It was great!

I already eat junk food 3-4 times a week, you don't have to tell me twice.

Waitwaitwait, so you're telling us that "you won't eat insects" but you eat "food" that even animals won't touch? Animals that eat everything, including insects, but won't touch?

Something's not clicking here . . ..

I don't like the thought of eating insects whole, or eating their guts. When I was young, my parents gave me snails on a plate... we used to use a toothpick to pick them out of their shell... either that or suck them right out. Then I grew up and realized wtf I was actually doing. Can anything be more gross ? Maybe deep frying a tarantula out in Africa...

I can eat a side of steak or beef with absolutely no problems. And taste has a lot to do with fast food... seafood on the other hand... is like tasting seawater or whatever they happen to dip it in. My .02 cents.

If you're able to rip off the shell of a shrimp, rip all their little legs off, and hold it by its tail while biting the rest of its body off, more power to you. I just couldn't do it...

Insects?

Do you eat mushrooms? You eat fungus

Do you eat cheese? You eat mold

It's easy to apply a simplistic label to foods...

of course it's all mental - reference the deep fried tarantula that is a tasty treat in some places...

I don't care if you call it a crustacean... it looks like an insect with its legs and beady eyes, along with its size. I won't put that in my mouth. Doesn't mean you can't.

You know what sausage is, right? Granted, it's still your opinion and we have no power to really change it, but I hate it when poeple I know won't eat food for the stupidest reasons.

I hardly think what I described in graphic detail qualifies for a stupid reason to not eat something.

That's graphic detail?

Sausage is all the leftover animal "by-products" ground up and put into animal intestines.

And by by-prodcuts I mean hooves, beaks, eyes, brains, all that good stuff that just won't sell. Sometimes, if you look closely, the texture of the "meat" in hot dogs are different. Now you know why. (It's probably a cow eye)

Now, recently they no longer use the animal intestines, for the most part, but the animal by-product part is still the same, itf not moreso used in sausage than say, ground "meat".

Having said all that, you'll probably eat that stuff anyways, I'd wager. I'd still say your logic about all that is stupid, since it's more selective than anything. Granted, it's only my opinion.

Actually, in Michigan, its illegal for them to put that kind of crap in sausage or hotdogs. Thats why Kogel Hotdogs are the best in the USA.

I can't stand seafood either. Don't like fish, clams (little rubber bands), scallops (rubber balls), shrimp, etc. Only land animals for me please.

Hey I'm with ya. I don't eat lobster or crab, and only occasionally shrimp and fish. Eating crab to me is like eating cockroaches of the ocean. I can't deal with stuff that tastes fishy or sea-like. I really like steamed fish in asian cuisine though - never had one I didn't like.

Edit: Forgot the clams/mussels/oysters and the like. Don't like em either. All those taste way too sea-like for me to stomach.
