Guys I am looking to buy a projector for everyday tv usage. I saw the lumen lab evo 1.1 projector which uses a $30 bulb. It seems to have all the connectors I need. Many of you guys are experts in projectors and I want to get your viewpoint on this projector. Do you think this would be a good buy? Price is resonable and the bulbs are only $30 :) If you think this is crap, please recommend one for me for everyday usage.

Please share your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

BO-RING.

840x480 native resolution?

I suggest a 720p DLP projector for around $1000 if you can afford it.

I cant imagine a 100" 480i screen... *shivers*

Replacement bulb for $1000 projector? $300? $400?

I think the question needs more background info. What kind of everyday TV usage? From a HD cable/satellite/OTA signal or standard analog and some DVDs? If the latter, there's no particular reason why this projector would not serve your purpose (depending on lumens and light levels in your TV room).

As for Matt2's response, why must the projection be at 100"? 720p or no, standard def tv is going to suck at that size and everyday tv usage doesn't exactly scream 100".

Thanks for your responses guys. Background info: I mostly watch movies at home in plain old DVD or just regular digital cable and might play PGR2 or GT4 in xbox/ps2.

So all the video stuff I have has component/rca connection only. I don't plan on dropping big bucks on buying HDTV stuff until the current technology becomes completely outdated.

Looks like this thing gives out only 1000 lumens which is pretty sad. :( Light level in my room? Hmm, very little because the 2-3 hours a week is usually at night.

I think I will wait for a few more weeks to get some more reviews from people and then pull the trigger as this will be definitely better than the 32" CRT I am using at this point. Question is did anybody here buy it?

Lumen Lab is more a DIY (Do It Yourself) site, with products and information for building your own projector. Interesting to see them selling a complete unit. I would guess it's a good unit, but lacking in refinement due to the limited part options they probably had to work with. For instance, the bulbs are usually HUGE, so that unit might be bigger than it appears (check the actual dimensions if they have it). Also, read carefully, as it may require a warm-up time for the bulb to reach full brightness, and may also require a cool down time after shutting it off before it can be turned on again. However, it does have it's advantages, like cheap replacement bulbs. I'm betting it will definitely be a different kind of creature from your standard name brand commercial projectors. Read anything you can find on it, so you can learn about all it's quirks, good and bad.
