Wow, I spoke too soon. The F1 is on fire - literally.
Mine just went up in smoke

Samsung is on the left, my WD drive was right underneath it - the top got scorched! The Samsung was the boot drive, the WD actually wasn't even plugged in at the time. I booted up the computer, heard a click-click-click, then smoke started come out...![]()

Ouch!
Hope that was just a fluke.

Aren't the F1 and that Hitachi both old 350GB platter designs? If so, IMO no reason to buy this today instead of a 500GB/platter 7K2 RPM drive if you want performance. $80 isn't even all that cheap for last-gen tech (gen meaning relative to HDD industry even if current per some manufacturers).

That sucks Kaido, I've had nothing but good experiences with Samsung drives. You sure the drives are getting adequate cooling?

Do you know which 1TB drives use 2 x 500gb platers? I think the WD Black does, but not sure about anything else.
edit: apparently the 1001FALS is 3 platters as well?

Now that's just too eerie. Five hours after you post here saying how good the drive is, it does a crash and burn... :Q
Well I'd assume the drives were right next to each other in the case because of how the Samsung burned that WD. If you have enough drive slots available you might consider spacing the drives out or something to make sure the PCB is getting adequate ventilation. I doubt this failure was due to lack of airflow, but it couldn't hurt to do this from now on.Originally posted by: Kaido

Both sides of the case off, 120mm front and rear fans, 120mm CPU cooler - plenty. Been this way for a year. Quality Corsair PSU connected to a UPS with AVR.

True Zap, but it's been cheaper. They had a $5 off code last week then the 10% off site-wide code before that. Shouldn't be too long till it drops in price again though I suppose that doesn't help anybody itchin' to buy now.
