No one invited the smack-talk ... but I do have a PC preference as well.

However, for the small cadre of Mac lovers on AT, I put this up here. If I was buying a Mac, I'd want to save every penny I could.

Personal suggestion - buy the lowest-end model and just soup it up. PC133 RAM is cheap, ditto for IDE drive, and the CPU can be O/Ced another 50-100MHz with AS3, and with a high-perf heatsink there's been stories of 150+ o/cs ... just watch your cache speeds, that's usually what causes most Mac OCs to fail.

Ya, you'll always be able to get faster PC's for cheaper. But, some of those Mac's kick ass. I have been considering taking the plunge.
MacOS X is finally a real operating system from Apple, Unix at the core.

The new iMac, with the widescreen LCD and DVD burner is great.

But, the one I really want is now discontinued, the Mac Cube. It's very compact, looks cool, and is almost completely silent. No fans at all, only a quiet Seagate Barracuda hard drive. When it's too slow to be useful for MacOS, I can always load Linux on it to use as a home server.

Anyone know of a place to get a deal on a use cube (other than ebay)?
