Lukewarm? Black "Alienware" Hydraulic case (modded) $37

How much shipping gonna be? Too difficult to find out. And there is no PS, by the way.

The case pretty cool, and for $37. Good deal.

JUST A THOUGHT BUT WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF AFTER BURNING/ERASING A CD OR DVD AND THE TRAY TRIED TO EJECT WITH THE COVER UP OVER THE DRIVE BAYS....yea I'm hollerin in case it may cost a repair/replace job on some poor anandtecher.

Nice save Onepotato!

Well, thank me very much.

next time you try to eject a cd from your cdrom, hold you hand an inch or so from the cdrom bay door and keep it from opening... in my experience, cdroms usually detect that something is blocking their opening and automatically retract back into the case, so this would not be an issue i think

looks like a nice case at a fair price, if you're looking for black...

lol mikhail putting the plug in for directron :-D I know a friend who got one of these cases from directron, and he loves it! Thats a good price. If i had the cash I would get it, but of course i don't so oh well. Directron is a great place to buy stuff and likewise mikhailtech.com is a great place for reviews!

bump^ I don't care about plugging them any, they don't even know it's coming from us cause it's from AT BBS. I just think it's a good case and I'll know for sure when I get one of the modded ones to review.

They don't always retract and that door does catch on them and it can be hell to get the door down..
For one thing unless you're some kind of idiot you'd drop the door down before you eject and if you burn a CD you should make sure the "eject after burning is finished" function is off..

I must worn anyone with a slot load DVD that it will eject into the door and it will be tough and possibly damaging to the the CD back in and the door down but if you're careful it's not really a problem anyway..

Oh and BTW a hotter deal might be the newer Alienware cases the ChenMing 601AE/Antec 10XX series cases for $40 (about $68 shipped) Linky and since Directron rapes people on shipping they would end up around the same price anyway

Antec/ChenMing case is far better

It comes stock with 2 rear 80mm slots and 2 front 80mm slots (one is a built in HDD cooler) and there is no real need to mod it because it has plenty of stock airflow while the Hydraulic case has pretty poor airflow even with the mods on this Directron version..
It's made of thick sheet metal compared to the flimsy Hydraulic case's metal (which isn't bad it's just more capable of being bent)
It uses Drive Rails and an easily replaceable rear I/O panel (the pop in pop out kind)
It has a door handle that can be locked as can the front door and the front door won't wear out over time like the door on the Hydraulic case did 🙁

The only real cons compared with the Hydraulic case are the weight difference (and it's a very large difference) and the fact that it doesn't have a slide out motherboard tray but IMHO doesn't matter because of the cavernous space the case gives you..

Edit: I own both cases so trust me on this..

Hey, here is a good idea, if you are retarded enough to NOT use the eject button on the drive instead in the software, you can just take the front of the case off if you get the tray or CD stuck. 😉 Easy fix. NOW USE THE EJECT BUTTON ON THE DRIVE FOR GOD'S SAKE!

Word of caution. The case is decent, and is cool looking, but there's not a lot of room by the 5 1/4 drive bays. And regarding the ejection issue someone was theororizing about, it may not be a problem with a tray, but I had a real moment when my slotload pioneer ejected a cd with the hydraulic cover up. That was not fun.

It's not truly hydrolic at all. It is a marketing scheme. There is no power to raise or lower the front cover. You must do this manually. The case has "air springs" as I call them.

i have this case
its sweet, but its airflow isn't real great
its a good moddin case

the door isn't hydraulic, it just has a little spur/gear system that slows it down so it looks hydraulic when you push the little button to open it

This is not an "Alienware" case. Please change the title.

If you want a big case for cheap, this is for you. However, if you have enough drives to fill up a full-tower, I would get something a little sturdier. I have the same case (well, a similar case with the same frame that is, they use this case frame with several different bezel designs) and it's sitting unused in my basement because it's quality is lower than my other cases.

came today.
I really like it, the construction seems decent. Has a mobo tray too. Pretty solid and well built mobo tray.
Will look good next to my HDTV!🙂
Thanks Maverick2002

alienware use to use these cases before they swtiched over to the antecs/chenmings

i've worked with both before, antecs/chenmings are much nicer.

why are people worried about the ejection issue? if you're burning a cd, you have to have the cover down to put the blank cdr in, so i doubt you'd put it back up while you were burning the cd...just my 2 cents

ditto
anyone ever try paintining their drive faces?
How about a ANTEC 5.25 USB BAY?

$50 shipped, can't beat it.

I have this case, works fine. Technically, it is a hydraulic function, as the door speed is regulated by a fluid-based module. A somewhat cheesy set up, but it is functional, and you don't have to worry too much about black peripherals, the door covers the drives.

Oh.. and the thread title is horribly wrong, it is not an Alienware case, and it isn't "modded", it comes from the manufacturer that way..
